Share The Load

Nobody could have predicted 2020 as the year it has been. If at all any person says, “I have been through this before” he would be lying for sure. Covid-19, pandemic, lockdown, stay at home have been the most trending words occupying our brains for most of the time. With so much negativity all around, will someone believe me if I say few “GOOD” things about this period?

When our honorable prime minister declared nationwide lockdown, it was like a question
paper out of the syllabus for me, my dad and my brother. We all were used to
going to our offices daily in the morning and get back in the evening. We
didn’t know what we were supposed to do locked up in our homes, But one person
for whom this wasn’t anything new was my ‘mother’. For her the routine wasn’t
going to change. On the contrary, she was the only one who was going to be
working twice more with all the men of home staying in home for the whole day.
Though my father has worked really hard in his younger days to uplift the
family’s financial condition, he has never been of any significant help to mom
in the household chores. It won’t be wrong to call it an inherited patriarchy.
Not that my mom had ever complained about it. It was only after I had got a job
that mom agreed to the luxury of a maid for household chores like cleaning,
laundry. But with lockdown she was again on her own.

Initial 3-4 days of the lockdown were fun. All family together, no office tension, rerun of
childhood tv shows and home-made snacks every now and then. Then the boredom engulfed
us. Then we were able to see what we couldn’t till then. Mom used to wake up at
5 am, get ready and clean up the house. Dad would be awake by that time and she
would prepare the tea and breakfast for him. Then she would go for washing the
clothes(no washing machine). When me and my brother would wake up, she would
switch to prepare breakfast for us and then again go back to washing clothes.
After finishing the laundry she would start prep up for the lunch. After lunch
is eaten by all of us (mom would be the last to eat as usual) she would get on
to washing utensils. Then if she is lucky, a half hour rest and get on to
prepare evening snacks (we don’t prefer packed snacks. Only freshly home-made).
Then the dinner preparation and washing utensils again and the day would end.
Imagine someone doing this daily for 30 years. I can’t.

One day when she woke up, she was surprised to see dad cleaning the house. She said he need
not do it but he insisted. He prepared breakfast for her. Me and my brother
were also the part of surprise. We prepared our breakfast on our own. My dad
took the laundry department while brother was the chef for the day and I
handled the cleaning up of utensils.

My mom was in tears. She had been the real
queen of the home for all the years but it was the first time we had made her
feel like that. We took the oath that household chores were no more just her
responsibility and that the division of labor would continue even after the
lockdown ends and “GO Corona” happens for real.

With modernization, the women have become equal contributors to the money pool of the family but
the men are yet to become equal contributors when it comes to household chores.
Time to see this change.

#Half Girlfriend

Hi friends,
I am sharing a Half relationship story at BlogAdda in association with #HalfGirlfriend.

The story began when I was in the second year of my medical college. It was a lecture in the auditorium. I could get a clear view of her from the place I was seated.

Whenever she rotated her head by 45degree around the axis of her spine, I got the view of her half of the face which included one eye, half nose, half upper and lower lips and one cheek and one ear. Almost three times I got the view of her half of the face. Her top had different colorful flowers designed on them. But all of them looked fake in presence of her face. Her face had the freshness of rose and the brightness of a sunflower.

In one hour of lecture, I noticed following things.
--Three times she adjusted both sides of hair at a time.
--Four times she adjusted her hair on right side, two times on left side.
--Four times she smiled.
--Half the time she sat keeping the chin on palm with fingers resting over cheek while the other half resting the whole cheek over dorsum of flexed fingers.

Everytime she turned her face a bit on the right, the sun shined brightly. Every time she smiled , the dark room got lightened up. This was the first time I was getting such vibes from a girl.

I desperately wanted to introduce myself to her, be friends with her and spend time with her but didn’t know how. Though she was in the same batch, I had never spoken to her.

As they say “God always listens”, in the next medicine lecture this happened:
Just two minutes after the professor entered into class, he said, “Anjali and Raaj.”

Anjali stood up at her place and I stood up at mine.

“Good that you both are present. You have got to do some work. You both together have to prepare the design pattern of our “Medicine Voyage” magazine by the next saturday—is that Ok?”

“Yes.” We both said.

The professor said, “You work together after the college hours. Concentrate on this work for the next one week.”

After this, I started getting sarcastic comments from my friends such as,
---Chance pe Dance..for one week..
---Enjoy the time, boy, enjoy..
---Don’t miss this chance..

So that’s how we met in person for the first time and by the end of the week we became good friends.

We kept meeting each other regularly in the college campus; be it in the canteen, the badminton court or the library. We both were very much comfortable in each other’s company. We used to study together for exams in library. She helped me in completing my journals while I used to share my notes with her. Many a times I used to explain her some things over the phone during late hours of night; so late that the conversations ended in the morning. We used to go together for lunch and even dinner quite frequently. She would share her every joy and sorrow with me. Whenever she got upset over any matter, be it her family quarrels or fight with room-mates she would call me to get consoled and I would rush to her with her favourite ice-cream ever ready to make her smile. We were fond of each other.

On her birthday, when I gave her bucket full of her favourite chocolates she was so happy and uttered a statement which seemed like elixir entering into my ears, “Love you so much Raaj. Thank you for this.” I kept on repeating those words in my mind again and again and told myself that she for sure has similar feelings as I have for her.

Two years had passed and it was the final year. My friends were constantly pushing me to go for the proposal as it was the last session. One such day I decided to tell her my each and every feeling for her.

When I went to her, she said, “As soon as this finishes, I am gonna start preparing for USA entrance exams. I want to pursue specialization in USA."

I was freezed and didn’t know what to say. I thought as if the last two years meant nothing to her and she had no attachment with me.

She said, “Why don’t you too join me in the preparation? Then we shall  study together in USA also?”

I felt a sign of relief on hearing that. I held back my proposal and said, “Of course, why not?”
I thought , “May be it is understood that she wants to be with me.” For me she had become my Girl-Friend. As they say in hindi movies, “Its not always necessary to express love in words. Sometimes it is to be understood with silence.” My friends kept scolding me for not making things clear and that someone else may be there in her life. I was so close to her that had there been some other guy she would have definitely told me. I was confident that Anjali was also in love with me.

We both happily prepared for the exams and then waited for the results. The results brought mixed feelings. She got selected but I got rejected. This meant that she got the approval to go to US but I had to wait for one more year to give a second try. This was when I decided to get some clarity.

I went and said, “Anjali, You go to USA. We shall be in touch and then next year I shall work harder to catch you there. I love you very much and will do whatever it takes to be with you.”

She, with expressions of surprise and shock, “Wait a minute. I thought we were good friends. Where did this ‘love’ angle came from?”

I asked, “Do you mean you love someone else?”

She, “Why do I have to be in love with someone to prove that I am not in love with you?”

I was taken aback at this and didn’t know what to speak further.

Her final words were, “Good bye Raaj, I was always your friend. Dont know at what moment you took me as your Girl-Friend.”

She went USA and I was left with my broken heart in India. I had the misconception of she being my girl-friend but in reality, she was just my "HALF-GIRLFRIEND".

“I am writing about Jug in my life for the #DearZindagi activity at BlogAdda“

“I am writing about Jug in my life for the #DearZindagi activity at BlogAdda“.

Hello,
So you want me to say something about JUG of my life, right? So here I go.There is always one person in everyone’s life who is THE LIFELINE. By Lifeline I mean to say he/she is the one you think will always be there for you no matter what the circumstances. I also have a JUG of my life. He is my elder brother. Though only two years elder than me in age; he is 20 years elder in intelligence, maturity and experience.

Let me begin from childhood. Being the elder one amongst us, he was the natural shield for me. My parents were always strict with him and sweet with me. He was always the one who got scolded for the mischiefs we did together. My mom always used to take my side when father had to scold one amongst us. She always used to say, “Ise kuch mat kahiye.Ye bada hi ise apne saath shararat karvata hai.” And my brother, with a big heart neither justified himself nor tried to put blame on me. He always protected me without any regrets. Also, whenever it came to divide food or gifts in between us, he always used to give me the bigger chunk.

My mom says that my first lessons for playing were taught to me by him. He taught me how to hold a bat, how to bowl and how to kick a foot ball. As a child I was very impatient and short-tempered. I frequently used get into quarrels with other children who bullied me. In such situations, he used to be the one who settled scores for me, cooled down situations and at times scolded me for being so impatient. He was my protector and a cushion that gave me the faith that no matter however worse situation may be, he would be there to protect me.

Mathematics is a monster every child has to face in school life. Fighting with it became easier as my brother guided me smoothly through all the problems. I owe my academic achievements and intellectual progress to him. He used to discuss his mistakes with me very frankly and it prevented me from making the same. I am someone with zero fashion sense. So when it comes to decide what to wear on what occasions, I always turn up to him. He guides what kind of hair style to have, what kind of beard to have, what body Deo to use, what kind of wrist watch or shoes I must have.

It was obvious for him to start earning before me. During my college days, he used to be my bank account. The moment he used to get his salary, he would transfer one-third of it into my bank-account without me even asking for it. So technically, my movies, parties, outings, picnics were sponsored by him. Also he never asked for any return favour.

There are times when I get frustrated with life. There are problems which are slightly bigger than the mathematics problems. Be it failure in exam or not scoring enough to get distinction or complicated relationships I always turn up to him. He doesn’t waste a single second in making attempts to bring me back to normal. He consoles me like a parent. Advises like a teacher and also pats on my back when I succeed in recovering. The only thing you want in depressing times is to have someone who listens to you. He is the guy I can rely upon. I know that whatever I want to speak out I can in front of him and he will listen me completely like an obedient student. I can cry my heart out in front of him. I can tell him the things which I can’t share with my parents. He is all ears for me. Today if I am a carefree, loving person who has the ability to cope up with difficult situations its all because of my JUG.

Thank you JUG for standing by my side each and every moment.

I am writing a letter to life for the #DearZindagi activity at BlogAdda.

I am writing a letter to life for the #DearZindagi activity at BlogAdda.

Dear Zindagi,

You have been there with me since my origin in my mother’s womb, i.e. 27 years and 9 months to be precise. From then till now, you have given me so much to thank about that if I start writing I may not be able to complete it any day. I have thanked you at the times when something big and huge has happened to me. But have missed out on thanking you for the small things and moments which you have given me to cherish forever. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for each and every thing.

The first feeling of happiness which I remember is of the love you showered on me in the form of my parents. My mom dipping the Parle-G biscuits in water and feeding me. Mummy used to soak the bread in sugared milk and feed me after squeezing it. She used to mix rice and curd and then create balls of rice which I used to gulp like a panda. That taste is still fresh on my tongue and just the memory of it brings a wide smile on my face.

You gave me the lovely experiences of thrill, impatience, surprises when I used to wait every evening for my dad’s arrival from office keeping my eyes constantly focused over his hands expecting some new sweet or toy for me. Waiting for the first date of every month just because of the tradition of purchasing gulab jamuns on the day of salary gave me goosebumps. The first bajaj scooter bought by dad; and me standing on the front space between the handle and the seat while my dad drove—O God, that feeling was equivalent to travelling in some spaceship. I can’t thank you enough for the SUNDAYSSS, the day which I awaited since the Monday of every week. Watching the morning Rangoli programme followed by Shree Krishna and simultaneously relishing the warm Pav-Bhaji served by mom. And then Shaktimaan during the afternoon lunch was an icing on the cake.

How can I not thank you for the primary school? Travelling in the school bus while playing games with friends. Cricket, football and antakshari were life. Wining in the game of marbles was like earning property for the family. Learning to drive a cycle was no less exciting than driving a Formula one race car. There were moments when I was annoyed with you like when I used to fall while playing and get abrasions all over my body. But then you used to convince me by getting my mom apply Dettol antiseptic over my wounds with all love and care making me ready to play all again. Celebrating Holi, Diwali with the society friends was a different high.

The best thing you could do was to make me the youngest in the family. You, in form of elder brother gave me the joy of a permanent playmate. Having a TV video-game gave the feeling of luxury. Especially, the "Contra" game felt like men on mission to save the world. While my elder brother used to get all the scolding from parents, I used to be the apple of their eye. You gave me the early lessons on savings by the trick of storing coins in the gullak.

Giving me the virtue of intelligence and intuition was another blessing by you which helped me keep myself academically strong throughout my studies, something which kept my parents always happy. Awarding me the ‘Best Student Of the Year Award’ and bringing the tears of joy in eyes of my parents established the fact that you not only kept me happy but everyone related to me also happy.  And then you bestowed me the biggest gift of my whole existence. Getting into MBBS in a reputed college. The dream of my dad which he had been nurturing since my birth. I can’t thank you enough Zindagi for this.

The college phase brought a whole lot of new experiences and surprises. I can never get over the birthday celebrations, the parties, the movie outings, the late night drives. In form of friends you gave me a whole new family. The spontaneous laughter during the lectures and staring at girls in the college canteen was so lively. And then you surprised me with the most beautiful feeling in the world. Yes, the first signal of entry into the adolescent phase. The beauty of infatuation and breathtaking feel of LOVE. Suddenly the world seemed so much beautiful as if the very existence of you was love. That’s when I reinforced my liking for the Bollywood movies and especially SRK. I could relate myself to SRK of all romantic movies such as DDLJ,Dil To Pagal Hai etc. Thank you life for giving me the realization that life is all about love. Though the first love didn’t achieve the happy ending, it gave me all the feelings one could experience. That is when I developed a passion, a craze, an obsession for SRK. And meeting him became a priority in my life without which I would remain incomplete. Passing out MBBS gave me the license to be the servant cum savior of people. You gave me a noble opportunity to work for the fulfillment of God’s purpose. The level of spirituality attached with this feeling of being one with God is damn too high. Thank you life for choosing me. Thank you for keeping me healthy and capable enough to keep others healthy.

With parents’ pride rising one level higher, I could dream of becoming a specialized surgeon. And you responded straight away. You got me placement for post-graduation in Mumbai in branch of Orthopaedics. You surely knew that Orthopaedics at any other place than Mumbai would not have given me a chance to meet SRK. Just when I thought that the unrequited first love would haunt me forever, you sent a beautiful fairy to my workplace. The feeling is as fresh and as liberating as the first time. Hopefully I shall be able to receive the same feelings from her. And now here comes your other blessing in form of Blogadda activity. I finally got the opportunity to meet the biggest star of the universe. Thank you very much life. All these moments are priceless. As SRK says, “Gratitude should be the attitude”; I shall always express gratitude to you no matter what my circumstances. Because I know that even the worst circumstances will help me in the betterment of my character and personality.

Yours truly,

Prashant.

Government Blames Bajaj For The Poor State Of Wrestling In India As It Stopped The Production Of Scooters

There is one thing common between all wrestling movies in India. Be it Sultan, be it Dangal, the protagonist uses the same mode of transport, i.e Bajaj scooters.
Salman was seen riding one and now even Aamir has taken forward the tradition. It is a fact that wrestlers still use this old mode of transport and they are comfortable in it. This has given an opportunity to pass on the blame for the poor condition of wrestling in India on to Bajaj which for a long time now has stopped the production of scooters.
Bajaj has welcomed the criticism and has drawn out a plan to revive the acceptable mode of transport in smaller cities. They even want to associate with Dangal for promotion purposes. Bajaj has promised that it will keep the scooters very cost effective so that all wrestlers can afford it and their commute between home and stadium will be comfortable.
Companies like Honda and TVS are also in talks to launch special edition vehicles designed for the wrestlers. Its good that movies like Sultan and Dangal are bringing us closer on our traditional sport like wrestling.

Chinese President To India : We Will Support Pakistan Until You Remove ‘Chinese Bhel’ From Your Menu

The recently concluded BRICS summit brought the leaders of 5 big big economies together in their fight against terrorism. There was a consensus related to actions against terrorist outfits.
The leaders discussed on various things other than terrorism. That included food, culture, hobbies and future aspirations. The Chinese President Xi Jinping was very vocal about his distaste for Indian Chinese food. Indians have literally customized the Chinese menu according to their own taste.
Some of the famous Chinese food on Indian menu are ‘Gobi Manchurian’, ‘Paneer Chilly’, ‘Chinese Bhel’ and lot more. Its a surprise that these dishes have no existence in China and Indians selling it with the brand name of China.
Xi Jinping was very furious with the dish name ‘Chinese Bhel’ as it is just a disproportionate mixture of all Chinese ingredients. He has strongly condemned the invention of such dishes in India. In fact he has urged PM Modi to personally look into the matter and ban the dish across India. Once the dish is completely banned in India, China will withdraw its support to Pakistan.
Indians are very attached to the Chinese Bhel and its seems very difficult to ban it in near future, but with China’s offer of isolating Pakistan, we can very well think of implementing the ban.
Or else, we should at least change the name of the dish.

Fair & Lovely Takes Offence In Serena Williams Winning So Many Titles Without Using Their Products

Fair & Lovely has always promoted itself as a brand which gives confidence to women in achieving their dreams. Their ads always show women achieving greater heights after using their products.

Recently fair & lovely management team held a meeting to discuss the impact of Serena Williams on the sale of their products. According to them she is the reason for their sales taking a hit. They have even planned out an ad campaign where they would show Serena as an exception of achieving dreams without using fair & lovely.
Fair & Lovely has asked its employees to prepare a list of women who are achieving things without using their products. They will all be covered under the exceptional women category.
Well, let’s see how they get their sales back, but full marks for their efforts

Captured Terrorists Convey That They Had Crossed Border Just To Use Indian Wi-Fi And Update Their Apps

After the Uri attacks, the Indian army has unearthed many infiltration activities. Recently 5 terrorists were captured entering Indian territory with weapons.
According to terrorists, these activities are going to increase in the coming days, but the reason they gave is shocking.
According to the infiltrators, they have no access to internet in Pakistan where 2G is going to be launched in 2018. Just like other citizens, even Pakistanis are data hungry and have to constantly upgrade their applications on android or iPhone. This has led to serious infiltration as they can access free internet in India.
Major operators in India have launched 4G services and it is the dream of a Pakistani to use 4G in his/her lifetime. They have promised the Indian government that they will update the applications and return back as soon as possible. One of the terrorists also talked about his dream of using a Jio internet simcard before he returns to Pakistan.
Security agencies are verifying the statements given by these Pakistanis, and if found correct they will all be provided Jio Sims as a goodwill gesture by Indian government.

All U-Turns On Indian Roads To Be Named As Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi speaks very less, but when he speaks you don’t understand what he is speaking. Something similar happened recently. First he spoke against the RSS, then he took back his comments and now he is back sticking to his older comments. Well, that sounds pretty confusing.
But this has been a trend in Rahul Gandhi’s political career. Now the Roads and Highways department of Indian government wants to dedicate all ‘U-Turns’ on Indian road to the congress heir. All U-Turn signs on roads will be replaced by a picture of Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul has never previously received such honor from the government, and according to him he relishes such honors. He will himself promote this initiative in all his political rallies, not in U.P though because U.P roads don’t have the U-turn sign, in fact U.P roads have no signs. Congress has thanked the BJP for honoring their president and have promised that they will use Advani ji picture on all sign gauges once they are in to power.
This shows the collaborative strength of the Indian democracy.

The Ramayan Revisited..

(school)
The science class ended and it was English next on the time-table. English was taught by Arti madam, very strict. In the last class a chapter had been completed and it was the time for a new chapter.
She entered the class and according to the habit, we stood up singing—‘Gooood Mooorrninngg…. Madam.’
She wished us plainly, “Good morning.”
“Today we are going to start a new chapter. Open up your text-books.” She ordered
The whole class opened the textbooks flipping the pages at the same time creating a musical sound. I too opened the chapter4. The title was---‘Bharat meets Ram.’ This was an excerpt from the great epic- “Ramayan”
“So students, this is a portion taken from Ramayan that was written by Valmiki.” She said.
It had been a tradition in English class that one by one Students were asked to read a paragraph aloud and teacher used to explain parallelly. If madam suspected anyone doing mischief she would ask him to stand up and read from the point where it was left. If he wouldn’t be able to locate, he used to get punished.
“Ok, Raaj. Start reading “ she said pointing towards me as I was seated on the first bench.
I started reading aloud,
“When Bharat returned Ayodhya, he came to know about Ram going to exile with Laxman and Sita for fourteen years and it happened all because of his mother Kaikeyi. Also, King Dashrath had passed away as he was unable to bear the pangs of separation from Ram……..”
After my paragraph ended, I sat down and Arti madam started explaining the paragraph. Then other student was asked to read and the chain continued.
While Viren was reading madam interrupted, “Viren, stop. Shyam! Stand up and tell me where Viren is reading.” She said in a harsh tone.
Shyam stood up. He was a bit shaken.
“Madam, I didn’t do anything.” He stammered.
“When did I say that you did something. I am just asking you to read from where Viren left reading.”
After few silent moments, he took a chance and started reading. The moment he read the first two words everyone knew that he was going to be punished.
“Why don’t you pay attention? Do you want to stay in the same class for the next year?” She scolded angrily.
“Ok, then tell me- Who were the four sons of King Dashrath? If you answer this correctly, I won’t punish you.” Madam made an offer.
The atmosphere was growing tense. Shyam began searching for the answers in the air. He was looking here and there, up and down to see if any help was coming from the neighbouring benches who were expert at lipsing but in vain. He scratched his head and neck; made gestures of ‘ooh, aah’ and then finally spoke, “I got it. I remembered madam.”
“Then tell me.” She said.
First he showed the four fingers of his right hand. Bending the index finger he said, “Ram.” Then bending the middle finger he said, “Balram” and then bending the remaining two fingers he spoke, “Krishna and Bharat.”
The whole class laughed uproariously. The history had been rewritten by Shyam, the great.
“You, the master of fools. Can’t you differentiate between Ramayan and Mahabharat?” she shouted.
Shyam replied, “Actually madam, I was not even born at that time. How can I know the difference?” Again the whole class burst into laughter.
The result was expected. Shyam was sent out of the class.
By the time the class got over, half of the chapter got completed.
“The remaining half we shall study tomorrow” madam ended the class.
(At home)
My father was busy turning the pages of his office file.
“Daddy, Today a chapter from Ramayana was taught by our English madam.” I said
“That’s very good. Which part of Ramayan did you study?" He asked.
"The part where Bharat goes to visit Ram in the forest." I replied enthusiastically.
"Now do you realize why I force you to see 'Jai Hanuman'? He asked.
I replied, "Yes." smilingly.
Those days a TV serial ‘Jai Hanuman’ by Sanjay Khan used to be telecast on Doordarshan weekly. My Dad insisted or rather forced me to see that serial, no matter how much homework was left. He believed ‘Ramayana is the most ideal epic for any person who wants to become an ideal son, ideal brother, ideal husband etc. In short he wanted to inculcate in me the qualities of an ideal son like Ram. I had never missed a single episode of it.
“We have a 2 CD set of Ramayana. You may watch it whenever you wish.” He said pointing at the shelf where CDs were kept.
"No. I don’t need to watch it now." I replied as it would be difficult to bear continuous four hours of mythological idealness.
(Next day in English class)
Arti madam arrived and after the Good Morning song she said, "Shyam, stand up. Start reading from where we had left yesterday."
Shyam stood up, this time with firm determination. Taking the text-book in his hands he said, "Madam, shall I keep standing or get out of the class?"
The class laughed uproariously.
"It would be good if you get out of the class every day before my period comes. No need to study English. Will it be Ok for you?" Her tone like that of a wild tigress.
Shyam was removed from the class again.
The reading of the left over portion began and parallel the explanation also continued.
The chapter ended after Bharat agreed with Ram that he would return to Ayodhya and rule the kingdom with all the dignity obeying all the principles of Sooryavansh.
Then the most hated part of the chapter came—The EXERCISE. It meant homework as well as an extra Activity.
Madam read aloud the activity, “Read Ramayana from other sources and then write down your own analysis highlighting any three events from the epic. Express your opinion."
" So who will do this activity?” she asked
As none responded, she said, " Ok. Then I shall select someone."
She scanned the whole class with her eyes behind her spectacles. Finally the wandering eyes stopped at the bench where I was seated and she said,”Raaj, you will do it.”
If at all I had said, ‘No’ then I would have had to hear-'Why don’t you want to do? Why are you behaving like an idiot? Why, aren’t you a bright student? You, idiotic nincompoop!’ The last word means a foolish person. So I better swallowed my tongue and agreed.
"How much time would you like to take for preparing the activity?" she asked as if she was doing an act of benevolence.
"14 years" I said and then corrected myself. "Sorry, I mean 14 days."
“Ok. Then next to next Wednesday, Raaj will present the analysis before the class.” She announced as if it was going to be a speech by The Prime Minister of India.
(After the class)
Viren came to me and said, "It seems like God never listens to you."
"Why do you say that?" I asked though I knew what he wanted to say.
"Every time when some extra activity has to be done, you get selected by the teacher. Every time you get trapped. This is the disadvantage of being a scholar or a brilliant student- You always come under the eyes of the teacher."
"Trap! This is not a trap. It is an opportunity to hone my skills." I emphasized the word 'opportunity' pretending to be happy with the activity.
"If that is the case why didn’t you raise your hand voluntarily?" He asked sarcastically.
"I thought every time I take the chance. So this time I must give others the benefit." I replied.
"Ok then, all the best. Do complete the activity with full enthusiasm."
I wish I could have kicked him.
(At home)
For the activity allotted, I had to recall the whole Ramayan that was impossible. There was only one way visible to me so I said to my father, "Daddy, I would like to see Ramayan. Please give me the CDs."
"What happened suddenly? Yesterday you were denying me." He asked.
"Actually, I realized how important it is to inculcate the qualities of Ram in me. So I would like to see it." I said though this wasn't the truth.
He gave me the CDs happily. I knew that it would be extremely difficult to watch the whole Ramayan at a stretch. So I decide to watch it part by part every day, about half an hour each day, and accordingly prepare my analysis.
I started my mission. I started watching the Ramayana CDs, everyday about 30 minutes. Wherever I found difficulty I would ask my father and he would explain in a manner as if he himself was Valmiki. Actually, I found it more interesting than I had thought. After 14 days, I got my report prepared and was ready to present it. I had scanned Ramayan and picked up the three instances from which it was worth learning. The next to next Wednesday came and came the period of English.
Arti madam entered and asked, “So Raaj, are you ready with your report?”
I must appreciate she had a very sharp memory. She could remember the activity she had allotted before 2 weeks without anyone to remind her.
“Yes madam” I said confidently
"Good. So come ahead and present it." She invited me.
I began reading the report aloud to the class: ------

RAMAYAN REVIVED
Here I present you the three instances along with the lessons which we must learn from them.

1.Kaikeyi demands her wishes from Dashrath

Once while on a war, King Dashrath got badly injured. He almost saw his death. At this time his one of the queens, Kaikeyi nursed him on the battlefield and saved his life. Being pleased with her care and service he said,”O Great Kaikeyi. Make any two wishes and I shall fulfill immediately” to which she replied, “I shall demand when I feel the need of them.”
When the time came, she demanded following wishes:
Ram should go for exile for 14 years
Bharat should be crowned as the king of Ayodhya
She demanded such rude wishes because her ears were poisoned by the words of Manthra, the maid. Because of this, Ram had to leave Ayodhya and go to forest for exile for fourteen long years and because of the grief of separation from Ram, Dashrath passed away.
Lessons to be learnt: ---- Never give yourself in control of any woman like Dasharath did. You will get trapped in your own words. Also never believe the words of any woman because they are always meant to deceive and destroy like Manthra. Never fulfill the wishes of your wife blindly as women always want to satisfy their ego. In this first instance, two women are culprits: Manthra and Kaikeyi.
As I completed the first instance, everyone in the class began laughing including Arti madam.
“Is there any mistake or shall I continue?” I asked.
She replied laughingly, “No, No mistake, please continue.” Then controlling her laughter she ordered the class, "Stop laughing and listen to him."
After everything got stabilized, I began the second instance.

2.) Shurpnaka episode
One morning during their exile period, Ram and Laxman were meditating outside their cottage. Shurpnaka, the sister of Ravan, happened to pass by. She was amazed to see Ram meditating. As she was a woman, she had a feminine body and was proud of it. She thought of seducing Ram by various moves. Ram, being a staunch practitioner of meditation did not get distracted. When Shurpnaka tried to cross the limits by insulting Sita, Laxman wrathfully cut her nose with his axe. Then she ran away crying to her brother, Ravan.
Lessons to be learnt: ---- A man should always be fully concentrated on his work. Women always try to break man’s concentration by showing off their beauty. But one should never get distracted by a woman’s beauty. Also when a woman crosses the limits, she should be punished just as Laxman did so that she never repeats the mistake. It was because Shurpnaka complained this to Ravan that he thought of taking revenge from Ram by kidnapping Sita. This led to the enmity between Ram and Ravan. Thus one should never trust a woman’s words.
Again when I completed second instance there was a roar of laughter. I was baffled.
"Is there a problem? Am I a joker or something? This is not at all a comedy show. Why are you all laughing?” I asked with my eyes widespread.
“Class, keep quiet.”Madam ordered and then asked me to continue. I began the third instance.

3.)Sita kidnapped

Ram, Laxman, Sita were busy doing their work in the courtyard of their cottage. Sita got distracted by some movement behind the bush.
She was surprised to see a golden deer moving across and immediately she said to Ram,” O Swami, That deer is so beautiful. Please bring that deer for me. Its so charming.”
Ram at first denied but Sita would not listen.
She said, "Swami, Never I have demanded anything from you. Please bring me that deer. I want it." At last he agreed to go for the deer and asked Laxman not to leave Sita alone. When Ram did not return for a while Sita became anxious.
She said to Laxman, "Please go in search of your brother. I am feeling nervous."
"No bhabhi, I won’t go. Ram bhaiya has ordered me not to leave you alone." Laxman disagreed.
"Laxman! I think you dont love your brother. You wish your brother should die." Sita said.
" Oh bhabhi! I can’t even think of such a sinful act." Laxman said
Laxman agreed but only if she promised not to cross the Laxman Rekha. After Laxman left, Ravan, in disguise of a saint, came to the cottage. Sita wholeheartedly came out of the cottage to give the alms. Ravan asked her to cross the rekha if she really wished to give the alms. Sita disobeyed Laxman’s commands and crossed the line. She got kidnapped and Ravan took her to Lanka. From this point Ram couldnt rest for a while and the troubles for Ram began. Ultimately the war took place and and lots of destruction took place.
Lessons to be learnt: ---- This part of Ramayan gives the maximum number of lessons.
Women are very stubborn and obstinate. Once they wish for something they desire to get it fulfilled anyhow; like Sita didn’t listen to Ram and just wanted to have the deer. One should never accomplish any desire of a woman They never obey any commands. They always do the things they have been denied to do; like Sita didn’t obey the request of Laxman to not cross the line. Had Sita just obeyed Laxman and not crossed the Rekha the entire complexity of Ramayana would not have begun. Ram would not have to face so many troubles. Also the war would not have taken place So many deaths and so much of destruction could have been avoided. Ultimately Sita was the cause of the war of Ramayan and the destruction that it led to.
The final summary is: --------
Ram had to bear all the agony just because of the women around him. Kaikeyi, Manthra, Shurpnaka and Sita--- all played a role in messing up Ram’s life. Ram's biggest mistake was to marry Sita. It is better not to marry. Sita was the cause of the war of Ramayana. Wives are meant to give rise to wars. So prevent yourself from getting married.
Thats all."
Everybody was clapping as well as laughing. I thought they were really happy with my report.
"Madam, How was the report?" I asked madam.
"Good, Raaj. You really have a different mind than others. Your point of view of Ramayan is really an eye-opening one." She appreciated.
I closed my notebook with a thud and walked to my bench with my chest 2 inches wider than before.
(After the school)
Viren came to me and with his mouth wide open said, "Raaj, Did you write the whole report yourself?"
"Of course, the entire report was mine." I replied with a sense of pride.
"What a funny report! Did you intentionally make a fool of yourself?" He asked.
I was confused. "What do you mean by 'foolish'? Didn’t you see the whole class laughing and clapping after my report ended?" I said.
"Oh! That was not appreciation. They were laughing at your innocence or foolishness, whatever it may be?"
"What rubbish!"
"This is not rubbish. What you spoke in the class was rubbish." He laughed loudly.
I ended the argument by saying, "Leave it." 'He might be jealous of the appreciation that I received in class.'-I thought.
