(At the get together of Civil Hospital Residents)
It was a casual get-together for all the Residents of Civil Hospital. Keeping aside the hectic routine everyone was busy enjoying food and gossiping.
Anand, the resident in Radiology department, made an announcement to his group, "Hey guys, there is an invitation for you all. I am going to end my bachelorhood and get married 2 weeks from now."
Sneha, Anand's colleague, commented, "Who is the unfortunate girl?"
Anand, with a broad smile (so broad that he could have eaten a banana sideways), "So funny. She is a dentist in Baroda. You all are invited." Everyone got busy congratulating Anand.
Akash, the surgery resident, asked Mohan, "Hey Mohan. When are you going to get married? You are 2 yrs elder than us. Have you found someone?"
Mohan replied, "Thanks for asking. I am commited to Asha, my MBBS colleague in Bhopal. Will let you know when I tie the knot."
Anand, "So guys, i am leaving for home tomorrow. See you all at my wedding."
(The day after tomorrow)
The news broke out in the civil campus--'A dead body was found behind the bushes in the Kalupur railway station premises. It is suspected to be of Dr.Anand.' A wave of anxiety spread across the entire campus.
The site of the dead body was sealed and Mr.Khan,the investigating officer, arrived at the site.
The dead body lied on the pebbles along side the railway track. The neck was almost completely sliced.
Vaghela said,"Sir. The wallet has the identity card of Dr.Anand, a Radiology resident in civil hospital."
Khan began inspecting the body carefully and got some findings, "Both the carotid arteries have been slashed very deeply almost trying to decapitate with a sharp knife. The deeper laceration on the left side of neck suggests the murderer is a right-handed person. The nails have some scrapings of skin,definetely of the murderer, might be due to the resistance offered by Anand."
Khan ordered,"Vaghela, get the body for post-mortem. Sent the skin scrapings for DNA test. Check out for any foot-prints, vehicle marks in 100 yard diameter. Also the weapon of murder."
As the body was lifted , a note was found beneath it. Khan picked it up. It said:
"Mr Khan, sorry couldnt give you prior information regarding this. Please dont get upset. We shall have a game; the game of deaths.
You know Mr.Khan, Females have PERIODs to regulate which they take some TABLEts. Its a 28 day cycle with ovulation taking place on (7*2)th day. And 23 days of post-menstruation. Well, if you have a good CHEMISTRY with your wife you will surely able to get this."
Khan, "What does this mean? It seems the next victim is going to be some lady resident."
Vaghela, "Sir, this is going to be an extreme case. The civil hospital is turning out to be a big headache for you."
Khan, "Get a meeting arranged with the professors and residents of Civil hospital."
(At the meeting)
Khan began, "The dead body has been identified as Dr.Anand, your colleague. I am afraid this is just the beginning. According to the cipher which the killer has left I think some female is going to be the next target." He displayed the cipher. The words of Khan were creating a whirlpool of fear and distress among the female residents.
He interrogated the colleagues of Anand.
Nirav, the radiologist colleague of Anand,"He was to get married after two weeks. He was a person with no enemies, at least from our campus."
Khan asked everyone to be alert and careful, especially to the female residents. Also the security of the campus was tightened.
(A week later)
As expected, the game of deaths had begun. This time the man on target was Nirav,another from the Radiology department---
He was found dead in his room in P.G.hostel...
Mr Khan was again at the site looking confused. There were broken thermometers on the table.
Khan said, "He has been killed by mercury poisoning. The killer had made him inhale mercury forcibly. These broken thermometers clearly suggest it."
He also found a note left for him which said,
"Poor Mr.Khan..Seems like you dont have a good CHEMISTRY with your wife. It was a simple one--PERIOD---TABLE---CHEMISTRY??(All these words flashed in Khan's mind.)"
'O god. Its the Periodic table of Chemistry.

He continued reading the note:-
"Well, Everyone who has taken birth has to die.Its the law of nature. Even doctors die. If you solve this may be you can save someone's life this time."
Khan interrogated the security guard, "Did you see anyone unknown entering the hostel?"
The guard, "No sir. After the first murder the security has been fullproof. No unknown person is allowed inside without verification. We only allow doctors without interference."
Khan, "Did anyone come to see Dr.Nirav, seeming unusual?"
The guard checked the visitors register and replied, "No sir, In last two weeks there has been no vistor for Dr.Nirav."
Khan concluded that the murderer might be someone from the Residents itself.
(Meeting with the residents)
Khan, "Two killings have a bit shaken me. The cipher found at Nirav's room is--

Everyone was astonished. Rahul Was sitting amongst them. The surprising thing was that he too belonged to the Radiology department.
Khan put forward his confusion,"Why does someone want to kill all the radiologists?"
The Head of the department pleaded, "Look Mr.Khan. You have to end this. Or else no one will opt for Radiology branch here, which has been the most preferred branch."
Khan assured, "I shall try my best sir. But I just feel that the killer is someone from the residents. He is aware of my all moves and knows everything about this campus."
Khan asked Rahul, "Please dont go anywhere without reporting me.
The room of was guarded with special guards and CCTV cameras were installed.
(Two days later)
Khan visited the P.G.hostel.He asked the guards, "Is everything fine?"
"Yes sir."
"Is he in the room?"
"Yes sir. He hasnt come out since morning."
Khan rang the doorbell but there was no reply. He knocked at the door still he didnt get any response. He was horrified at the thought of something unusual. He asked the guards to crack the door. And when he entered the room he saw Rahul seated on the sofa completely freezed. The sight was clearly indicating the death of Rahul.This was the height of frustration for Mr.Khan. A dart was found pierced into the neck of Rahul. Also an opened gift box was seen lying on the floor.
Khan examined the box. The box had a spring mechanism placed inside it. It was like the moment Rahul would have opened the box, the dart would have got released and pierced Rahul's neck.
Khan, "O god. The murderer had already placed this box in room even before we deduced Rahul to be the next target. When he might have opened the box the dart might have got projected from the box into the neck. This dart surely is the poisoned one."
Khan was getting no leads. Many questions were arising like--
"Why is someone making Radiologists the target? What may be the motive?" Khan couldnt find any evidence or witness. The interrogation with the family members of the victims also didnt give any hope.
The HOD asked, "Khan, did you find the next clue?"
"Yes, I got the clue at Rahul's room and I have successfully deciphered it."
"So who is the next target whom we have to warn?"
"Sorry sir, but I wont disclose it. Not even to the person who is the target. I am sure the killer is someone from the campus itself. I dont want him to know my next move."
(At the headquarters)
Vaghela, "Whats our next move?"
"According to the clue, next target is DrTejas. But let there be no security changes from us. Let the scene be as normal as if no murder has taken place."
(A day later)
Tejas was busy watching television in his room when somebody knocked the door. He stood up to open the door.
"Hi Tejas" Mohan greeted him.
"O Mohan. come inside." Both went inside shutting the door.
"How are you doing Tejas?" asked Mohan.
"Am fine. Whatsup with you?"
"Well I am here to say sorry to you."
"Sorry? For what?" Tejas seemed a bit surprised.
Before Tejas could utter anything Mohan just climbed over him and attempted to throttle him. Just at that time MrKhan jumped from behind and caught hold of him. Khan had hid himself in Tejas's room since he knew Tejas to be the next target.
"So DrMohan..We have you at last huh?" Khan said handcuffing Mohan.
(Interrogating with DrMohan)
"So MrMohan, do you want us to be rude or will you speak out the truth? Tell me why did you kill your colleagues."
"Khan, I killed all of them. But its not me who wanted to kill them."
"What do you mean?" Khan asked curiously.
Mohan said, " The day I returned to my room after attending the get-together I found a suspicious person waiting for me in my room."
[Flashback]
"Who are you?" I asked.
"Hello DrMohan. Pleased to meet you. Myself Mr Wilson."
"Do I know you? Have we met before? I cant remember."
"No. We havent. But I do know about you. And also about Asha, your beloved."
The way he spoke Asha's name I knew he was not a friend.
"What do you want?"
"I just want you to know that Asha is in a lot of pain. Only you can relieve her."
"What have you done to her?" I grabbed his collar.
"Calm down Mohan. Its very simple. She has been kidnapped. And the only one who can free her is you."
"What do you want?" I asked being terrified at the thought of Asha being kidnapped.
"You just have to follow my instructions. Do as I say. When you complete my work Asha shall be yours."
[Return from flashback]
"So he forced me to kill Anand, Nirav and Rahul. All I did was what he instructed. I killed a person and kept the letter he gave me at the site. Now if I dont kill Tejas he shall kill Asha. Please officer, let me kill him or else.." Mohan was begining to loose his senses.
"Look Mohan, we shall help you. Just co-operate with us. Tell us how he looks, where he stays, any contact nos."
"I dont know anything except his looks. He used to come to meet me at my room. I dont have his no. or his address."
Khan was again baffled. The case was still left to be solved.
(Attending to the residents)
Khan to the residents, "Well there is an incomplete good news for you all."
Everyone looked puzzled.
"I have caught the murderer but its not the end."
"What do you mean by that?" asked one of the residents.
"The murderer is Dr.Mohan. He has accepted his crime. But its not him who is the mastermind. He says that some 'Mr Wilson' forced him to do all these. That his girl-friend has been abducted by Wilson and would let her free only after he completes his work. So I believe that the task is yet to be finished. We have to look for Mr Wilson."
Everyone was shocked to hear that.
"But why does he want to target the Radiologists?" asked the HOD.
"Cant say. For that we have to catch Wilson." Khan replied.
Though the killer was caught it wasnt the end. The fear still prevailed. Khan had a lot of work to do.
Days passed. The series of murders had halted. But it was necessary to catch Wilson to bring it to the end.
(After a month)
Khan called all the residents and the HOD.
"Well, I have investigated a lot and found that there is no Mr Wilson-'Yes. No person named Wilson has ever abducted Mohan's girl-friend or forced him to do murders?" Khan said.
"What, then was he manipulating?" asked Aakash.
"Not exactly. If I am correct Mohan has been here only since last one year, I suppose."
"Yes, He did his MBBS from Bhopal." replied Aakash.
"In attempt to know about Mohan ,I went to Bhopal. There I met with his family members and friends. Mohan's parents had been divorced since he was in school. This had a very bad impact on his brain. Also I came to know about his college life. He was in love with this girl named 'Asha'. They had a good relationship for almost 3 years."
"Had? What do you mean? He is commited to..." Aakash interrupted.
"Let me complete. Their relationship was stable for a long time. But the drift occured during the internship. She dumped Mohan. She had recieved a marriage proposal from a Radiologist. She betrayed him and that was enough to begin a whirlpool of psychiatric disorders in Mohan. That 'radiologist' factor tempted the fall of their relationship. Since then Mohan has been suffering from delusions, hallucinations. I consulted the psychiatrist who had treated him in Bhopal. He told that Mohan often showed the symptoms whenever he withdrew from his medications. After he came here he has been irregular with medications and his symptoms have aggravated. He strongly believed he was still with Asha. Mr Wilson was just another creation of his own mind that forced him into murdering of the Radiologists."
"What next?"
"Well, Most probably he will be sent to the Rehabilitation centre. This is a case which I think I havent solved yet.I cant decide whom to be blamed---'Mohan,who killed all but without being in his senses or Asha,who betrayed him or the obsession with the Radiologist factor which tempted her to betray."
